Strawberry 5--in the permanent collection of
the Pensacola Naval Air Museum
Strawberry 5 was the first PBY, US patrol
aircraft, to spot and report the unknown location of
the Japanese Naval Armada as it approached Midway Island on
June 2 &3rd, 1942. The
ensuing battle was a resounding US Naval Air-Sea victory,
which many consider to be the point at which Japanese defeat
began.
