Welcome to Pea Ridge, AR

Pea Ridge is a sleepy little town which has, in recent years, become what some would call a "bedroom community" of  the larger cities of Northwest, Arkansas.  These cities include Rogers, Springdale and Bentonville, Arkansas (Home of  Wal-mart).  The 2000 census put the population of Pea Ridge at 2,346, but it's estimated that, due to rapid growth growth in Northwest Arkansas over the last 5 years, Pea Ridge's population could be near double that now.

When land in and around the larger cities went up, Pea Ridge became a popular choice for those who worked in the cities but wanted more affordable properties.   Pea Ridge is approx. 9 miles from Rogers, 9 miles from Bentonville and 23 miles from Springdale.

Along with growth of population came increased growth in the commercial services, such as banks, fast food franchises, convenient stores, and soon to be, Wal-Mart!  As a result, Real Estate costs in Pea Ridge have also risen to comparable levels for Northwest Arkansas. The medium home price in Pea Ridge is approx. $135,000, and many new subdivisions have gone up in the area in the last few years.

One thing you can find in Pea Ridge that you can't find in the larger nearby cities, however, are larger tracks of land.  Much of Rural Pea Ridge is being use for farm land and dairy production, but smaller tracks of land are available from time to time.

THE BATTLE OF PEA RIDGE

By far, Pea Ridge's place in US History came when Over 25.000 troops engaged in battle on two bitterly cold days in 1862, March 7th and 8th, .  When the battles were over 2,000 men were dead or dying of their injuries.  Included among the dead was two important Confederate Generals, deaths which virtually shackled the confederate troops, and played an instrumental roll in the Confederate's loss of the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas.  The Union's win thwarted the south's campaign to fight their way through Missouri to St. Louis where a decisive battle will help the South take control of the Mississippi river, a major supply line for both Union and Southern troops.

Today A 4,300 acre federal park protects hallowed ground where soldiers on both sides fought and died for their way of life.   At the visitors center you can view authentic civil war artifacts, watch a movie on the Battle of Pea Ridge, and find out how you can start a self guided car tour of the battle field and surrounding forests.    To learn more about the park and/or the battle, visit

Views of the park are included in the Pea Ridge Views in the images.
